It often comes as a surprise to people outside of the healthcare field how unhealthy people in the healthcare field can be. Spending years training to tend to others' health lends itself to sedentary stress and crappy habits. Our training never evaluates us on how well we are taking care of our own physical and mental health, even though neglecting our health means neglecting anyone we try to help. But when we surround ourselves with the acutely sick and those with chronic disease, I feel the privilege and luck of my own health, and the need to nurture it by being active.
